Kendal Mountain Festival and Kailas present 'The Kendal x Kailas Mountain Spirit Film Grant' 2024

£40,000 of Funding to encourage Mountain Adventure Filmmaking

What we are looking for

The Kendal x Kailas Grant is for a documentary film of up to 30 minutes exploring ‘Mountain Spirit’, to be made between April 24 and September 24, and premiered at Kendal Mountain Festival November 2024.

Kendal and Kailas celebrate Mountains as the test-field and dreamland for humans to push their mental and physical limits. This project is to fund filmmakers to go into the world-wide mountain ranges and tell expedition and adventure stories.

We are specifically looking for original and imaginative filmmaking, and stories of joy and freedom in the mountains.

What we are offering

The total funding pot is £40,000, double the 2023 Grant. There is extra finance potential depending on the requirements of the awarded projects.

Please apply for up to the total amount, but be realistic, we may divide the funding pot between a number of applicants.

The Kendal team will support the winning filmmakers with development meetings throughout production to delivery.

Kailas will provide a full provision of expedition kit from their range; this must be selected and sent in by the winning filmmaker a week after selection.

Kendal will offer feedback sessions to unsuccessful Filmmakers.

Our requirements

Please apply with a 1 minute video explaining your motivation for the project and a comprehensive PDF Pitch Document by the 1st of March 2024.

Kendal, Kailas and the winning Filmmaker/s will sign a contract to support the delivery of the project and the security of all parties. The funding will not be rescinded as long as a film can be achieved for the 2024 Festival.

All teams must consider the environmental impact of the project and we suggest you use the ‘We Are Albert Carbon Calculator’ to assess your decision making.Please read and consider the ‘BFI Diversity Standards’ when making your application.
