Jerry came into the spotlight in the early 1980s with important ascents such as the 2nd ascent of Ron Fawcett's Strawberries (E6 6b) at Tremadog, and lightning quick repeats of some of the world's hardest routes such as Genesis and Equinox in the USA, Super Imjin in Japan, Bidule in France and The Face in Altmühl Valley Nature Park in Germany.
His own important first ascents include Helmut Schmitt (E6) at Stoney Middleton, Masters Wall (E7 6b) on Cloggy, Revelations (8a+) and Evolution (8c) at Raven Tor, Liquid Ambar (8c+) at Lower Pen Trwyn, and Ulysses (E6 6b) and The Ace (Font 8b) at Stanage.
Jerry featured in the climbing films Hard Grit, The Real Thing, One Summer and Stone Love amongst others. He also appeared naked and tied up in climbing rope in On the Edge magazine...
