Severely injured while serving in Iraq, Phil’s unexpected profile has grown with the support of the national media and British public who joined him on his quest to raise well over £1million for Help for Heroes. A year after being paralysed and told that it was highly unlikely that he would walk again, it was through his many challenges including rowing the English Channel, walking the London Marathon and climbing El Capitan that has seen his inspiration and determination affect thousands.
Phil's compatriots on El Cap were the well-known climbers and double-act Andy Kirkpatrick and Ian Parnell, and all three tell the tale of a less-than-straightforward ascent of a 3,000ft piece of stone.
