Charlie King is the first woman to paraglide from the summit of Kilimanjaro (5,895m) – she flew from the top of Africa’s highest mountain in September 2017.
She has taken part in some of France’s many competitive hike-and-fly events, including the Transdromoise, Airtour and Bornes to Fly, where she has made many lasting friendships. She has also completed several mountain ultra-marathons, including the 119km-long, 7,200m of ascent, Traces des Ducs de Savoie, part of the UTMB series. In the autumn of 2011 she realised a dream by climbing Mont Blanc (4,807m) and paragliding from the summit. On 27 September 2017, as part of the Paraglide Kilimanjaro team, she became the first woman ever to climb and fly solo from the summit of Kilimanjaro (5,895m). Charlie lives in the south of France with her husband Marcus and their two children, where she works as Cross Country Magazine’s news editor.
