Join us on Thursday 16th November to celebrate our unique, community focussed opening event for Kendal Mountain Festival 2017. Presented by Columbia and fun for all the family and completely free!
Head along at 17.30 to 'Greenside' (the open space opposite the Rifleman's Pub, up from Beast Banks) for a community gathering and a grand welcome and official opening of the Festival from Sir Chris Bonington and other special guests. (Look out for our Festival Team who will be giving out free tickets for the first 550 people to join us in the cinemas at the Brewery.) Then from about 17.50 join us on our very own 'Alpine Descent' - down Captain French Lane and on to the Brewery Arts Centre, complete with flag waving, cow bells and a live band! Don't forget to bring your head torches!
We will also be seeing off our friends at Kendal Mountain Rescue Team who will be starting their epic 290km Rescue Round up at Greenside. Join in cheering them off on this massive fundraising effort!
Once the procession reaches the Brewery Arts Centre you are welcome to join us for 30 minutes to watch some of our newest films from this year's film competition and of course view the Festival trailer, 'Spark in the Dark' on the big screen (please note numbers are limited and a ticket will be required from the team up at Greenside). The 'hot off the press' free Festival programme will also be available for pick up so you can plan your weekend ahead. Festivities will all be finished by 7pm but you are welcome to make a night of it and stay on at the Brewery and enjoy a 'Burger and a bottle of beer for £12.50' (usually £17.50,) and/or a 'Pizza and bottle of beer for £10.50' (usually £13.50) plus (limited) options off the main menu.
Come join us in the fun and celebrate that the town of Kendal delivers the world's biggest Mountain Film and Adventure Festival!
