Lecture: Matthias Fanck
Details: 10:00 to 11:30 at The Box
Speaker: Matthias Fanck

If the genre of Mountain Film – or Bergfilm – could be said to have a father figure then it would undoubtedly be Arnold Fanck. A pioneering filmmaker between the wars, Fanck – using pioneering techniques quickly adopted by the rest of the film industry – directed a whole raft of classic feature films set in the mountains. His body of work included such greats as the White Hell of Pitz Palu 1929, Storm over Montblanc 1930 and SOS Iceberg 1932. While his films were works of fiction he invariably filmed on location in the high mountains and his techniques had a major influence of documentary filmmakers.

Presented by Haglöfs, the Swedish outstanding outdoor equipment manufacturer and supported by Whitedot Skis, this is our biggest Snowsports event ever.

We will also have the skier and star of the film Andreas Fransson and skier producer Bjarne Sahlén on stage to talk about the story behind the film. Andreas Fransson has been called the boldest extreme skier in a generation. Over the past 3 years he’s logged first descents in a half-dozen countries, battled back to life from an accident that nearly killed him, and become the most talked about skier in the epicentre of all things extreme – Chamonix, France.
