Filmmaker Corey Rich says, "I have always been fascinated by those people that are the best at what they do. Those that operate on the edge; scientists, artists, musicians, athletes etc. Always the question that I find myself asking is 'WHY?' What deep inside drives them? What does the world look like through their eyes? Those that live on the edge push the envelope, redefine sports and industries operate in a space all to themselves. In my Nikon D4 launch film I wanted to visually portray the beauty and intensity of the athletes doing what they do best while also delving into their heads and answering the question ‘WHY'? There was a very simple list of criteria used when selecting the athletes for this film.1. They had to be the best in the world at what they do. 2. They need to be true role models/heroes. In short no ego just simple fantastic people."

I have often said if I wasn't a filmmaker and photographer, I would be a teacher. There's a great satisfaction in sharing knowledge and experience to help spark the creative fire in others. When Nikon approached me to be part of the D4 release project not only did they ask me to produce a video and stills, showing off the attributes of the new camera they were also looking for a behind the scenes video spot detailing how 'WHY' came together. This was an amazing opportunity, as it allowed me to simultaneously be both a filmmaker/photographer and a teacher. Though this meant everyone in the crew had to work twice as hard, especially Dane Henry. Capturing the action behind the scenes became just as important as the hero footage and stills. 'HOW of WHY' is a great illustration of everyone's hard work and ability to multitask, plus proof that we all had a lot of fun along the way!'
