Kendal Mountain Festival is the UK's premier mountain film festival celebrating adventure, culture and environment. We accept and screen films on a broad range of subjects but are always interested in work that focuses on mountains, mountain culture, adventure sports and travel.

At the heart of the Festival is the International Film Competition, which awards film prizes through an independent jury. The coveted awards (the Kendals) are the most beautiful sculptures created by artist and legendary Mountaineer – Andy Parkin!

With prizes and sponsorship packages on offer, opportunities to pitch your next idea to industry partners (with commissioning funds available) and the potential for inclusion on the Kendal World Film Tour and on new digital platforms with high calibre partners, we endeavour to ensure our filmmakers get as much out of the Festival as possible.

The film competition sees over 300 films submitted each year, which is shortlisted to around 70 with inclusion decided on merit and quality. Films are screened in 10 venues across Kendal over the Festival weekend. If your film is selected for Kendal 2018 - you will be invited to join us for the Festival weekend. There is also the opportunity to be included in our ongoing Film Tour.

We attract many film premières (World, European or national) every year - the Festival is acknowledged by filmmakers as the foremost opportunity to showcase their latest films and many plan their production schedule for the year around the event.
